Dr. Mahmood has delivered multiple talks and presentations at national and international conventions. He was the recipient of the Alexander J. Walt award in 2008, one of two top awards given at the Michigan Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He was also selected as the physician of the year in 2013 at Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.
Interests & Research
Dr. Mahmood's primary interest in the field of colorectal surgery is colon and rectal cancer, along with benign diseases such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and diverticular disease. Dr. Mahmood performs laparoscopic surgery for these diseases and is formally trained in TEM (Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery) procedures. Dr. Mahmood also specializes in the treatment of common anorectal disorders. He offers treatment of pelvic floor disorders such as rectal prolapse and fecal incontinence. He was the first colon and rectal surgeon to perform the rhomboid flap for pilonidal disease in Fort Bend County. Dr. Mahmood also has been trained in the da Vinci robotic surgical system.
Dr. Mahmood firmly believes in efficacious patient care in the greater Fort Bend community and its surrounding areas. He is well respected by his peers in the community and at the medical center. Practicing medicine is a privilege that he undertakes very seriously and with a great deal of compassion.
